He walked to the door of Shuai Chang and asked, “Is Adonis in?”
Two seconds later, Adonis opened the door, surprised to see General Kane. “What brings General Kane here?” He stood firmly at the door, blocking Kane’s view, showing no intention of inviting him in.
General Kane seemed oblivious to Adonis’s wariness, smiling, “I have good news. Is your female partner around? How about coming to my place for a visit? There’s a noble who wants to meet you.”
There was probably only one person in the entire orc planet that could be called a noble by General Kane.
Shuai Chang understood immediately, “Please wait a moment; I’ll change clothes with Anqiluo and come over.”
Shuai Chang changed into a neat military uniform, and Anqiluo also dressed up. They pushed the door open and stepped outside, where General Kane was still waiting.
They took quite some time to change clothes. Shuai Chang said, “General Kane, sorry to keep you waiting.”
General Kane waved his hand, “It’s fine. Let’s hurry up so we don’t miss the noble if he gets busy.”
Both Shuai Chang and General Kane had long legs, while Anqiluo had to jog to keep up, soon out of breath and with weak legs.
Suddenly, Shuai Chang stopped. General Kane noticed that Shuai Chang didn’t keep up after walking a few steps; he turned around and saw Shuai Chang picking up Anqiluo horizontally.
Seeing General Kane looking over, Shuai Chang nodded, “It’s nothing, I can carry him faster.”
General Kane couldn’t help but think, even in such an exciting moment of meeting Caesar, they still had to show affection; Adonis’s reputation as a wife slave was hard to shake off.
Upon entering General Kane’s office, he solemnly approached the door and lightly knocked three times. Only after hearing a faint “Come in” from inside did he push the door open.
General Kane first invited Shuai Chang and Anqiluo to enter. Anqiluo tugged at Shuai Chang’s clothing, asking to be put down. Shuai Chang was unwilling, but he thought it was indeed not appropriate to carry his wife while meeting an emperor, so he gently placed Anqiluo on the ground, waiting for him to stand steady before holding his hand to walk into the general’s office.
Emperor Caesar’s sharp gaze scrutinized Shuai Chang and Anqiluo. General Kane estimated that His Majesty had matters he didn’t want him to hear, so he tactfully excused himself to attend a meeting, leaving the private space to the three of them.
Shuai Chang was not intimidated by Emperor Caesar’s gaze and even smiled, saying, “Your Majesty, do you wish to promote me to Marshal?”
This was the first time Emperor Caesar had encountered someone who wasn’t afraid of him, and a hint of intrigue glimmered in his eyes, “Do you know I am Emperor Caesar? Do you know what my relationship to you is?”
“Of course I know,” Shuai Chang replied immediately.
“Oh? Then tell me, what is our relationship?”
“You are my immediate superior. Once I become a Marshal, I will be second only to you. You are the only one on the entire orc planet who can command me.”
Emperor Caesar’s mouth twitched slightly, a hint of ambiguous pain flashing in his eyes, “That’s incorrect. I am not your superior.” His voice was cold and firm.
Shuai Chang’s confident smile faded, “No way, Your Majesty, are you not going to let me be a Marshal? I’ve killed sixty-four thousand fallen beasts in this assault!”
Anqiluo felt somewhat anxious, “Your Majesty, Adonis is really impressive. Almost all the trophies of his ten squad members are thanks to him, so he should have killed at least eighty-four thousand fallen beasts.”
“You are Adonis’s partner?” Emperor Caesar turned his gaze to Anqiluo.
Anqiluo felt a bit scared, but he couldn’t accept the fact that Adonis wouldn’t be made a Marshal. He was so capable; why couldn’t he receive fair treatment?
Gathering his courage, Anqiluo nodded, “Yes, Your Majesty, my name is Anqiluo, and I am Adonis’s partner.”
Emperor Caesar nodded, “Good choice.” It was unclear whether he meant that Adonis had good taste or that Anqiluo did.
Emperor Caesar was used to commanding authority; even though he wanted to be close to Adonis, his demeanor remained strict.
“Adonis, I am your mother-father,” Emperor Caesar said.
Shuai Chang thought he might have misheard and turned to look at Anqiluo, only to find him as surprised as he was.
“My… mother-father?” What a joke; could it be that this imposing man in front of him was actually a female?
“Yes, twenty years ago, before I ascended the throne, I gave birth to you. The previous emperor, for the sake of reputation, sent someone to take you away, then passed the throne to me, allowing me to ascend as a male orc prince.”
Shuai Chang said, “…Your Majesty, honestly, if you had said you were my father, I might not have been this surprised.” Why did it have to be “mother-father”? Shouldn’t females be soft and adorable?
Emperor Caesar did not expect that what Shuai Chang minded was this; he was taken aback and then explained, “I wasn’t always like this. To conceal my identity as a female orc, I took a potion to change my appearance.”
That explanation seemed somewhat reasonable.
Shuai Chang asked, “Mother-father, what about my father?” He quickly accepted his new identity.
Emperor Caesar pursed his lips, dark clouds crossing his face, “He died twenty years ago during the fallen beast tide while saving me.”
“I’m sorry.” Shuai Chang hadn’t meant to bring up painful memories.
Emperor Caesar shook his head, “It’s fine; I’ve grown accustomed to life without him.”
“When there are others around, call me Father Emperor,” Emperor Caesar instructed.
“Okay. Mother-father, you really won’t let me be a Marshal? I am your son,” Shuai Chang thought Emperor Caesar would appreciate him speaking like this.
Emperor Caesar tried to soften his expression, but the effect was minimal, “You are the crown prince. A person who governs the country does not have time to hang around the military every day.”
Compared to the Marshal, the crown prince was truly above everyone else. The military of the orc planet was not controlled by the Marshals or Generals but was held firmly by the royal family. Once the emperor decided on a successor, military power would be transferred accordingly.
This time, Shuai Chang had no objections.
“Do you only have me as your son? Or is it because I have extraordinary talents?” Maybe Emperor Caesar had taken a shine to his capability in hunting fallen beasts.
